Chinese Nationalist Party
The Nationalist Party, also known as the Kuomintang (KMT), is a political party of the Republic of China that was founded by Sun Yat-sen in 1911 and overthrew the Qing Dynasty in 1912. Sun Yat-sen formed an alliance with Mao Zedong, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party in 1923. However, this alliance was broken when the Kuomintang came under the leadership of Chiang Kai-shek. The party was dominant in China from 1928 until 1949 when People's Liberation Army defeated the Nationalist Army and members of the party fled to Taiwan.
